The 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron Air Training Corps has presented over one hundred awards to its Cadets in an evening dedicated to achievement and reflection, supported by their Wing Staff Officer, Flight Lieutenant Julie Rason-Flynn.

Awards and certificates ranged from first aid and sports qualifications to the Duke of Edinburgh Award and various flying and shooting achievements.

Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Alyn Thompson, reflected: “Tonight is a landmark for our Squadron; we believe we are the only Unit in the Corps over the last twelve months to present this many awards to Cadets in one evening. We thank our Wing Staff Officer for making these presentations on our behalf.”

Air Cadets from the 1211 (Swadlincote) Squadron ATC spent Easter weekend successfully raising funds towards their activities by bag-packing for customers at the Swadlincote branch of Sainsbury’s.

Over two days, twenty Cadets raised over £2,000. A £250 donation was also made by the Sainsbury’s branch staff.

Squadron Commander, Flight Lieutenant Alyn Thompson, summarised: “Most of our fundraising activities are conducted with other charities borne in mind. It is rare that we will raise funds solely for ourselves, and we thank the Swadlincote branch of Sainsbury’s for having us over the weekend and for their kind generosity. Funds raised will go towards Air Cadet activities to be enjoyed within the next year, including camping, rock climbing, canoeing and sports.”
